My name is Marta and I’m 23 years old. I’m from Barcelona, Spain. I love being from Barcelona because it’s a cosmopolitan and wonderful city, with lots of people from different countries and it has awesome spots you can visit or just walk around next to the seaside. So, I belong to Catalonia and this region borders the sea. I love the sea and this is why I practice surfing and snorkeling. I was raised in a family who adores it too and my summers are always in the coast for sure. I have a sister whose name is Paula and she’s two years younger than me. She is actually my soulmate and we are great friends. We hang out together, we travel together and we also have arguments about sharing clothes together hahahaha! I love my family and spending time with them makes me so grateful because it is a big family and I have so much fun! I’m a really open-minded person, flexible, out-going, risk taker and really, really talkative. I am keen on languages and that is why I speak Spanish, Catalan, English, French and a bit of Portuguese. I also like to dance and to go out with my friends. I’m also fond of traveling, I visited most part of the countries in Europe, and Brazil too. This is my first time in the States and I’m looking forward to explore the USA! I have studied Primary English Education in the University of Barcelona (UB). I studied during the Senior year in the Netherlands doing an exchange program called Erasmus. There, I could work in a school for 4 months and I lived for one year in a student housing sharing the flat with 12 students from all over the world. It was an amazing experience and there I built up a friendship with some of the flatmates which will be forever. During the last year, I had been working as an English teacher in an Academy in Barcelona. Since I was really young I always wanted to become a teacher. I used to play with my dolls and my blackboard simulating that my room was a classroom! So I discovered my curiosity about teaching and learning from your pupils. I love to encourage kids to investigate, to search and to develop on them the critical thinking empowering them. I’m really excited for this upcoming school year at ISLA as an L.A. You can find me in the Kindergarten with Srta. Patiño and in the First grade at Sr. Alfaro’s class. I would like to bring and share my culture, my traditions, my experience and my knowledge. I’m so glad and thankful for being at ISLA which is like a real family and everybody supports all the pieces that make up the puzzle. I’m staying with the Salmons during the first half of the year. I can best be reached by phone/text at 612-998-5365 or mmartin@isla-academy.org
