PTO Programs

ISLA PTO

The ISLA PTO is a 100% volunteer led and run program made up of a group of parents, grandparents, guardians and family of ISLA students. We come together to provide support for the students, teachers, staff and community as a whole. As ISLA is a public charter school, all of our programs are dependent upon community/parent-involvement.

Volunteerism

The ISLA Community is strong thanks to our parent involvement! Being a public charter school, ISLA thrives because of the support from our families. We help provide the ability to get involved at your children's school with opportunities to help serve lunch, organize/attend class parties, special events at school, during community events and much, much more!

There are no volunteer requirements, but families are encouraged to get involved– It gives you the opportunity to learn more about the school, meet new families and help build relationships for your kids and yourself. Any volunteer time and/or financial support is greatly appreciated, but is never required. Roles of all sizes are available at various times throughout the year– Reach out to PTOchair@isla.school for more info.

School Support

The ISLA PTO helps gather & coordinate both funds and volunteers for school and community events including, but not limited to... the Spirit Store, the FREE uniform exchange, Grade-level room parents, chaperones for field trips, Field Day, Lost & Found coordination, ensure coverage for the Lunch Program, Picture Day, Vision & Hearing screening support, staff meals for conference days as well as staff appreciation weeks & other special events.

Language Ambassador Program

Each year, the ISLA PTO brings native-Spanish speakers from around the world to live among our ISLA community as they provide educational support for our teachers in the classroom and cultural enrichment for our students by sharing about their language, traditions and things unique to their family & country.

The LAs act as our staff's teaching assistants and fill many roles not only within the classroom, but also in our community as they are also excited to learn more about our traditions and culture by living with host families from our school. See more details on the Language Ambassador Program page to really understand just how special this program is and why it remains the ISLA PTO's main fundraiser each year!

Fiesta de la Primavera

The ISLA PTO fully funds the Language Ambassador Program and is arguably our largest contribution to the school & community. In order to achieve this, we host an annual fundraiser called Fiesta de la Primavera! This is our biggest party of the year where parents, our LAs, teachers, staff and anyone in the ISLA community can come together to celebrate the school!! We fundraise through live & silent auction items donated by our community– Tickets to local games, gift cards, custom woodworking, gift baskets and our most popular item... Great Gatherings!! Great Gatherings are events hosted by an ISLA family/ies) where tickets are sold to others in the community. All proceeds from ticket sales go straight back to the ISLA PTO!!

More info available here: Fiesta De Primavera!

Community Events

We thrive by sharing time together and growing a sense of comfort within our community. The ISLA PTO hosts multiple free gatherings throughout the year offering opportunities to learn more about your child's school, meet new families and enjoy one another's company. Some of these events are, Yahoo/Boohoo, the Back to School Picnic, Dia de Los Muertos, Grade Level Social Events, Winter Family Night, Spring Family Night, PTO Guest Speakers and parent meet-ups.

Fundraising

The ISLA PTO maintains a variety of fundraisers to provide financial support for student & community enrichment by fully funding the Language Ambassador program and many other school support programs and community events. Annual fundraisers may include MN Give to the Max Day, Restaurant Nights, Spirit Store, Mabel's Labels, Amazon Smile, Box Tops for Education and the School Supply Kits!

Spirit Store

The Spirit Store is a fundraiser for the ISLA PTO. They provide clothing for our students (and even adults) to show a little school spirit! One of the main items purchased from the Spirit Store are the color-specific grade-level shirts! Teachers use these shirts for field trips and the 6th graders do a fun tye-dye project with them, too! They also carry, hats, bumper stickers, sweatshirts and a range of varying items. All proceeds from the Spirit Store go back to support the PTO and the above programs!!

Each grade level has an assigned color and all grades are allowed to wear black. While the shirts are not required, teachers like to have kids in their "Se Habla Español" shirts for field trips and students like to represent ISLA!
