Language Ambassador Program

The signature program of the ISLA PTO is the Language Ambassador ("LA") program. Each year the ISLA PTO brings native Spanish speakers from around the world to live among, and be a part of, the ISLA community. The LA program enriches ISLA through the program's many benefits.

  • The LA's provide students with a more diverse cultural experience as the LA's share their native cultures with ISLA students through the year
  • LA's participate in the various ISLA extra-curricular activities throughout the year, helping build vocabulary and providing a unique perspective on the after school activities
  • LA's work closely with the classroom teachers providing assistance and interacting with students every day

The LA's welcome contact from all ISLA families and would LOVE to spend time with you and your children!

Host Families & Aunt/Uncle Families

Host families commit to hosting an LA in their home for one half of the school year (Fall or Spring), with the changeover in January. Aunt & Uncle families come alongside the host family to support the LAs. This could be as simple as inviting the LA over to your home for dinner, helping with transportation, or doing something fun on a regular basis.

If you have any questions about being a host family, an aunt & uncle family, or would like to be involved in any other way with the LAs, please contact the LA Coordinators or email IslaLAprogram@gmail.com. You can also direct any general questions regarding the LAs or the LA program to the LA Coordinators.

Host Family Home Visits

Have you thought about hosting an LA? Don’t miss your chance for this upcoming school year to open your home to one of our LAs. We schedule house visits in the Spring for potential host families. We will meet at your home and go over expectations of the host families and answer any additional questions that you have. If you are interested in hosting and/or want more information, please contact LA Coordinator or IslaLAprogram@gmail.com.
