2024-25 Board Openings

The ISLA PTO Board is comprised of volunteer community members, and we have the following roles available for you to step into. If you'd like to raise your hand for a role or get more information, connect with Caitlin Edstrom (PTOSecretary@isla.school).

PTO Board: LA Team (Language Ambassador)

LA Team: Social Media/Marketing Coordinator

PTO Board Position

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Create & promote marketing material for LA events to help encourage community involvement.

  • Testimonials from previous host families.
  • Testimonials from current LAs.
  • Testimonials from future LAs to assist in family placement for the following year.
  • Help create LA bios & photos to share out with PTO Secretary for Noticias & on social media.
  • Weekly social media engagement posts.
  • Assist the Language Ambassadors with posting and promote their individual needs to the appropriate ISLA Social Media

PTO Board: Volunteer Coordinator(s)

Main objective: Manage volunteer needs for PTO events.

  • Meet with PTO Board once per month (30 minutes)
    • Determine fundraising Goal(s)
    • This role can be split between “clerical” tasks and a volunteer/community outreach.
  • Encourage a volunteer mindset for ISLA parents:
    • Charter schools rely heavily on volunteers from the community for various activities and functions.
    • Volunteering by more parents eases the burden on all and helps build a more inclusive and harmonious community.
  • Promote the idea that we do not expect parents to block off a day to help.  If they can chip in an hour here or there, that is ideal and makes a HUGE difference!! 
  • Details about role:

    • Collaborate with the PTO Board about upcoming volunteer needs. The primary events are as follows:
      • Yahoo/Boohoo
      • Ice Cream Social
      • Dia de Los Muertos (DDLM)
      • Teacher Staff Potlucks for Conferences
      • (possibly) Teacher/Staff Holiday Party
      • Fiesta
      • Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week
      • Earth Day
    • Create Sign Up Genius for events. (login provided to you)
      • Volunteer needs communicated to you via PTO Board.

PTO Board: Community Events Chair(s)

Main objective: Work with PTO Board, Volunteer Coordinators to help set-up community events sponsored by the PTO. The events chair leads or delegates event leadership for key PTO sponsored events.

Our prior chair will be available to help give an intro and provide context & info– Along with consistent support from the rest of the PTO Board.

Meet with Board once per month

  • Monitor email (login info provided).
  • Discuss calendar of community events
    • Dates for ‘24-’25 have been mapped out
  • Spearheads or delegates to event leads for:
    • Yahoo/Boohoo
      • We have a volunteer to handle this event for ‘24-’25! 🙂
    • Back to school Ice Cream Social
    • Dia de Los Muertos (DDLM)
    • Earth Day 
  • Templates/supplies available to follow from past events
  • Also open to new ideas you may bring to the table

PTO Board: Fundraising Co-chair

  • Meet with Board once per month
    • Determine fundraising Goal(s)
    • Monitor email (login info provided).
  • Supply Kits: Work with Elizabeth Sundal (Spirit Store Chair) to reach out to teachers via email, submit lists to School Specialty and email out to families to order. text
    • Set up delivery date/ organize with volunteers to get the supply kits sorted out.
    • order in Spring/Receive supply kits week before school starts. This is done for the ‘24-’25 school year, but the new fundraising chair will help with the ‘25-’26 school year order with guidance from the board!
  • Give to the Max (in Nov): Set student &/or teacher prizes with board, send letter home to families.
    • Monitor daily intake over the day of GTTM; work w/treasurer to track donations.
    • This could be taken on by one person or the team
  • Donations: Work w/events chair to determine if there are donations we can arrange to cover costs of certain items for events.
    • Ex: Bagels & coffee for Yahoo/Boohoo: Panera/Starbucks from last year.
    • Meals for teacher appreciation from local restaurants
    • Back to school Picnic- Ice cream- DQ?
    • DDLM: Potential to help coordinate raffle items?
    • Fiesta: Work with co-chairs to help gather Fiesta donations
    • These could be taken on by one person or the team as a whole!
